Who We Are
Board of Governors
Our organization is guided by an independent Board of Governors whose members bring a breadth of legal expertise, public interest experience, and community perspective to our work.
About Our Board
Our Governors are volunteers who invest their time and expertise because they believe in our vision: a future where systems of law and justice support all people to live and thrive in dignity. Their independence is essential. Though our Governors are appointed by the Law Society of BC, the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and the Attorney General, they make funding decisions free from outside influence, based solely on merit, impact, and alignment with our mandate.
Our Members
Our Board has 18 volunteer members, appointed as follows:
- 12 members of the Law Society of BC or the judiciary, appointed by the Benchers of the Law Society to represent geographic regions across the province.
- 2 members of the Law Society appointed by the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
- 3 members of the public, appointed by the Attorney General.
- The Attorney General or their appointee.
How We Work
Our Board operates through standing committees, each focused on a distinct area of our work: Capacity and Access Funds, Executive, Finance and Operations, New Grants, and Policy and Planning. The Board and its committees meet regularly throughout the year.
