The Law Foundation of British Columbia has designated funds of up to $250,000 for the creation of a Child Protection Clinic/Resource Centre for British Columbia. This fund has been made possible by a grant from the Attorney General to support legal clinics for fiscal year 2019-2020. Applications must be submitted to the Law Foundation no later than 31 July 2019.
The purpose of the initiative is to establish a Child Protection Clinic/Resource Centre. The Centre will provide mentorship and support around the province for individual lawyers who do child protection work and provide some limited legal services and systemic advocacy in the area of child protection. It is anticipated that the Centre, which will have at least one full time lawyer, will serve as a centre of excellence for the province, will work closely with Legal Services Society, and will act as a clearinghouse for information about child protection.
